A young ghoul girl named Hinami and her kind mother Ryoko enter Kaneki’s life, and their warmth reminds him of the family he lost. Watching them together stirs something in him. But peace is fragile in this world, and danger is already closing in around them. Hinami and Ryoko bring a warmth to the story…
Tragedy strikes when the investigator Kureo Mado guns down Ryoko, Hinami’s mother, without mercy. The news shatters the fragile peace at Anteiku. Hinami is left orphaned, and Touka’s grief curdles into something dangerous. What happens to Ryoko in this chapter is absolutely heartbreaking.

Rumors of a violent ghoul organization called Aogiri Tree start spreading through the wards. Anteiku’s regulars grow uneasy. Kaneki senses that the fragile balance of his life is about to be shattered once more. A sense of dread hangs over this chapter from the very first page.
