Hide’s absence weighs on Kaneki more than he admits. His oldest friend vanished from his life, and the guilt never left. He fights on partly in the hope that making the world safer might one day make up for it. Hide’s absence haunts Kaneki, and this chapter makes that pain tangible.
The curtain falls on Kaneki’s journey. From a lonely student to a legend who changed the world, his story is complete. But in the world of ghouls and humans, every ending is just another beginning. Every ending being another beginning feels exactly right for this story.
Alliances shift as the Cochlea raid approaches. Former enemies find common cause. Kaneki’s group, the remaining Anteiku members, and even some CCG defectors converge on a single desperate plan. Former enemies uniting gives this arc a thrilling sense of scale.
Eto makes her next move, and it is bigger than anyone imagined. Cochlea, the CCG’s inescapable prison, is in her sights. If it falls, every monster the Doves ever caged will walk free. Eto targeting Cochlea raises the stakes to a whole new level.
In a tender final scene, Kaneki and Touka look toward tomorrow together. Whatever comes, they will face it side by side. The story of the one eyed ghoul ends not with a battle, but with hope. Ending not with a battle but with hope is the perfect choice.
News of Jason’s death sends shockwaves through the underworld. Kaneki’s name starts carrying a different kind of weight now. Those who once pitied him are beginning to fear him, and he is fine with that. The underworld’s reaction to Kaneki’s deed shows how much he has changed the game.
Amon grieves for Mado while clinging harder to his belief in the CCG’s mission. At Anteiku, the mood is somber. Nobody celebrates. Kaneki understands now that every fight in this world leaves scars on both sides. Nobody wins in this chapter, and that is entirely the point.
