Still reeling from his transformation, Kaneki runs into Nishiki Nishio, a senior who seems friendly at first. But Nishiki is hiding a violent secret of his own, and their encounter turns brutal fast. Just when things look hopeless, a stranger with a rabbit mask steps in. This chapter does a great job of showing how lonely Kaneki’s new life has become.
In a devastating turn, Mado is killed, and Amon is left shattered by the loss of his mentor. The victory tastes like ash for everyone involved. Both sides walk away wounded, and the cycle of hatred only grows deeper. The cost of revenge is laid bare in a way that stays with you.
The Kaneki who emerges from that darkness is someone new entirely. His hair has turned white, his mind is clear, and his hesitation is gone. When Jason returns for another round, he finds a very different prisoner waiting for him. The shift in Kaneki is chilling, and Ishida draws it perfectly.
Touka confronts Kaneki about the path he is on. She sees him disappearing into the darkness and refuses to watch silently. Their argument is raw and honest, the kind only people who truly care can have. Touka calling Kaneki out is the honest conversation he desperately needed.
The raid ends in ashes. Anteiku is gone, Yoshimura is missing, and Kaneki has vanished. The survivors scatter to the winds. Touka holds Hinami close, vowing that they will rebuild someday, somehow. The ashes of Anteiku mark the end of an era for every character.
The CCG’s last line of defense crumbles. Investigators fall back, overwhelmed. In the heart of the prison, Kaneki finally confronts Eto, and the truth about her plans comes spilling out. Eto’s true goal being revealed reframes the entire conflict.
Aogiri Tree makes its move, and the scale of their ambition becomes clear. Led by the mysterious One Eyed King, they are done hiding. The CCG scrambles to respond as the wards erupt into open conflict. Aogiri Tree’s ambitions are frightening in their scale.
