The raid ends in ashes. Anteiku is gone, Yoshimura is missing, and Kaneki has vanished. The survivors scatter to the winds. Touka holds Hinami close, vowing that they will rebuild someday, somehow. The ashes of Anteiku mark the end of an era for every character.
The story begins with Ken Kaneki, a shy college student who loves books and keeps to himself. When the beautiful Rize Kamishiro asks him out, it feels like a dream come true. But the date takes a horrifying turn, and a freak accident leaves Kaneki with organs transplanted from Rize herself. If you are new…
Pushed past his limit, something awakens inside Kaneki. His kagune bursts forth for the first time in a surge of raw power. The frightened boy is gone, replaced by something wild and furious that even Tsukiyama did not expect. Kaneki’s awakening is one of the most iconic moments in the entire manga.
The fighting intensifies, and both sides take heavy losses. Amid the chaos, personal vendettas play out. Kaneki realizes that staying neutral is no longer an option, and the time for watching from the sidelines is over. Kaneki realizing he can no longer stay neutral is a pivotal moment.
Battle lines are drawn across the wards as ghouls and doves clash in the streets. Old rivalries reignite. Kaneki watches from the shadows, waiting for the right moment to move, his white hair marking him as something the world has never seen. With battle lines drawn, every character is forced to choose a side.
The duel reaches its devastating conclusion. Amon falls, broken but alive, and Kaneki spares him. Mercy from a monster confuses everyone watching. Kaneki walks away, leaving the investigator to question everything he believed. Kaneki sparing Amon says everything about who he still is inside.
Aogiri sets its sights on Anteiku itself, and Yoshimura knows what is coming. He begins preparing his people for the worst. The little coffee shop that sheltered so many is about to become a battlefield. Knowing what is coming for Anteiku makes this chapter hard to read.
